PATNA, Sept. 23 -- The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Tuesday invited fresh applications for 32,388 teaching vacancies through the Teachers' Recruitment Examination (TRE) - 4, according to a notification issued by the commission. The notice says online applications can be filed from September 25 to October 26 and the exam fee can also be submitted within that period. Earlier, applications were invited from September 1 but were put on hold following changes in the examination pattern. The new examination schedule also follows a pivotal change in the hiring examination format. On August 27, after a long student agitation, the government relented to their demand for a one-phase examination for TRE-4 instead of a two-tier system, and a single result for a single candidate, unlike earlier when one candidate qualified for multiple posts. This TRE-4 will also be the first exam for teachers after the implementation of the domicile policy. In a pre-election announcement, former chief minister Nitish Kumar had announced preference for domicile in teacher recruitment in August. TRE-4 has been pending for a long time and became a prominent issue before the 2025 assembly elections but it kept getting delayed for several reasons, including the demand to conduct the Secondary Teachers' Eligibility Test (STET) before TRE-4. The STET was eventually held in October-November 2025 and another one is set to be held. In TRE-1 & 2, 170,000 and 70,000 teachers were appointed, while in TRE-3, only 66,603 out of 87,774 vacancies could be filled....
