BJP to start counter drive against Oppn from today
PATNA, Oct. 22 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a 15-day campaign, "Loktantra Bachao, Bheedtantra Hatao" (Save Democracy, Remove Mobocracy), from October 22 to November 5.
The campaign will feature rallies, press conferences, youth and student dialogues and outreach to civil society groups to defend its position on electoral processes and counter the opposition's allegations over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, senior party leaders said on Wednesday.
BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi and state organisation general secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsania reviewed the campaign strategy with state office-bearers at the party headquarters on Wednesday.
Saraogi also held a video conference with district presidents and district-level teams to coordinate preparations across the state.
The campaign will focus on electoral roll accuracy, protection of voting rights, accountability of political parties and public confidence in democratic institutions.
The BJP has accused opposition parties, particularly the Congress and the CPI(M), of spreading misleading claims about electoral rolls and undermining trust in the electoral process.
The campaign's outreach will extend to social media, influencer engagement under the theme "Ghuspethiya Hatao, Loktantra Bachao" (remove infiltrators, save democracy), and the distribution of publications, booklets and other publicity material. The party also plans a special magazine edition as part of the campaign.
Saraogi said the BJP would reach people across Bihar to strengthen democracy, ensure the integrity of electoral rolls and protect constitutional values.
The campaign is intended to present the party's position on these issues and challenge the opposition's claims, he said.
The campaign will feature district-level public meetings, rallies and padyatras, alongside direct outreach to prominent civil society members, youth and students, BJP media in-charge Danish Eqbal said on Wednesday.
The party aims to counter what it calls misleading claims by the Congress-led opposition and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over the revision exercise, which has triggered protests over the deletion of large numbers of voters' names from electoral rolls.
"We have been asking the opposition to give us even one name that has been wrongfully deleted from the electoral roll during the SIR. They have not been able to provide one and are unnecessarily trying to mislead people over the SIR," Eqbal said.
He claimed that those whose names had been deleted were either deceased, registered as voters at multiple places or had shifted elsewhere.
The BJP has drawn up a district-wise programme to explain its position on the revision exercise and counter the opposition's allegations through public engagement, Eqbal said.
The campaign comes amid continued protests by the Congress and other opposition parties, which have questioned the manner in which the SIR has been conducted and demanded the CEC's resignation.
The opposition has argued that the exercise has led to the deletion of crores of voters' names, raising concerns over the integrity and inclusiveness of electoral rolls and casting shadow on the manner in which public representatives were elected in a democracy.
The BJP's campaign is aimed at taking the political contest over the revision beyond party statements and into public meetings and grassroots outreach.
While the opposition has sought to build pressure on the Election Commission over the deletions, the BJP plans to defend the exercise and challenge the allegations directly before voters.
As of September 26, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said the SIR had been completed in 20 states and Union territories, including Bihar, where the exercise began on June 24, 2025 and ended on September 30, 2025.
The Commission said the final number of electors would be known after the final rolls were published in the remaining 12 states and UTs under phase III....
