Bihar SVU raids locations linked to EE in DA case
PATNA, Aug. 12 -- The special vigilance unit (SVU) conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to Harendra Kumar, an executive engineer with the Minor Water Resources Department, in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case on Tuesday.
Harendra is currently posted in Banka. The SVU sleuths searched several premises associated with him, including residences and official locations in Patna, Vaishali and Banka.
During the searches, investigators recovered cash of Rs.9.50 lakh, jewellery worth Rs.81 lakh and expensive watches, luxury vehicles and motorcycle from Harendra's residence in Patna. Investigators examined departmental records, documents related to assets and other papers considered relevant to the case. The searches included a flat at Janak Nandini Apartment in Mahavir Nagar of Patna, as well as a flat/apartment in the Phulwarisharif police station area besides ancestral house at Patepur in Vaishali.
Investigators are examining documents related to land and property, bank accounts, financial transactions, investments and departmental records.
Sources indicated that several documents concerning assets were recovered during the searches. According to available information, Harendra Kumar was transferred to Banka as an executive engineer around a month ago. Before that, he was posted in Gayaji. During his posting in Gayaji a complaint was made against him by a person. Later, SVU initiated the investigation following that complaint alleging that Harendra had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The SVU subsequently registered a formal disproportionate assets case and is carrying out further investigation.
"Preliminary investigation and verification revealed that Harendra Kumar, after contributing to government service in 2015, has illegally acquired a huge wealth during his postings at various places, which is much higher than the government salary and other known sources received by him. From the verification, prima facie, it has been found that Harendra has a total of Rs.2.20 crore assets acquired by them illegally and illegitimately.
During the search five bank accounts have been found in the name of Harendra and his wife Kumari Soni.
"Altogether eight plots/flats located at Parsa, Danapur, Sampatchak, Beur intersections, Mithapur agriculture farm, Mahavir Nagar in Patna and Patepur in Vaishali valued at Rs.1.43 crore have been found," said additional director general of SVU Sudhanshu Kumar....
