PATNA, Sept. 23 -- The Bihar government on Tuesday announced an additional subsidy of up to Rs.20,000 for households installing rooftop solar panels under the CM's Solar Incentive Scheme, as it stepped up efforts to accelerate adoption of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana in the state. Under the new incentive, households will get an additional Rs.10,000 for a 1kW system and Rs.20,000 for 2kW and 3kW systems. This will be over and above the Centre's subsidy of Rs.30,000, Rs.60,000 and Rs.78,000 for 1kW, 2kW and 3kW systems, respectively. The push comes as Bihar lags behind target under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, launched in 2024. Against a target of four lakh rooftop solar connections by March 2027, the state has achieved around 30,000 so far, while about one lakh applications for installations are pending, officials said. As part of a special drive to speed up installations, the state has launched a month-long Sewa Setu camp till October 17 and roped in Jeevika workers to promote rooftop solar among households.
