DARBHANGA, June 27 -- A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted in Patna district was shot in the abdomen, while the alleged assailant was beaten to death by a group of people in an apparent fall out of personal dispute in Bihar's Darbhanga district early on Friday, police said. The incident took place around 4.30 am at Ojhaul village under the Bahadurpur police station limits. According to the police, Sunil Sahni, in his late 20s, allegedly shot ASI Mohammad Mobin, 50, following an altercation. Mobin, a native of Ojhaul and currently posted with Patna police, was rushed to a private nursing home in Darbhanga where he is undergoing treatment. Police said Sahni was subsequently assaulted by a group of people using sticks and a sharp-edged weapon. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Senior police officers, including the SSP and DIG, Mithila Range, visited the village after the incident. A FSL team collected evidence from the scene, while Sahni's body was sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for post-mortem . The SDPO (Sadar-I) is camping in the village to supervise the investigation. Bahadurpur SHO Prasunjay Kumar said the deceased's father, Dilip Sahni, in his complaint named nine persons as accused, including Rahul Sahni, Mohan Sahni, Sohan Sahni, Kanhaiya Paswan and ASI Mohammad Mobin. Police said Sahni had several criminal cases registered against him at Bahadurpur police station in Darbhanga and Pupri police station in neighbouring Sitamarhi district, including charges of attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion, criminal intimidation and offences under the Arms Act. Residents claimed the dispute may have stemmed from Sahni's marriage to Saniya, a Muslim woman, about three years ago. According to them, the woman's family later shifted to Pupri in neighbouring Sitamarhi, where Sahni had also been residing. Police, however, said they are investigating all aspects of the case, including the motive behind the shooting and the circumstances that led to Sahni's death. No arrests had been made till the filing of this report....
