ARA, Sept. 13 -- Enraged family members joined by the villagers blocked the Ara-Sasaram state highway near Garahni village on Saturday following the death of a social worker Mohammad Zafi, who was shot at and injured on late Friday evening in the Islamganj locality of the village, under Charpokhari police station area. The irate villagers also torched tires on the road and raised slogans against the police. They demanded the suspension of the SHO. They alleged that the SHO's negligence led to the criminals shooting and killing the social worker. The angry villagers were also demanding a personal visit of Ara superintendent of police (SP Awadhesh Dixit to the spot and blocked the road for five hours in support of their demands. This resulted in long lines of vehicles forming on both sides of the road, bringing traffic to a complete halt. Upon receiving information about the road blockage, Cyber DSP and in-charge Sadar SDPO Roshan Kumar and Jagdishpur SDPO Rahul Kumar arrived. After receiving assurances that the culprits would be arrested within 48 hours, the blockage was cleared and traffic was able to resume. Based on the statement of Amna Khatoon, mother of deceased social worker Mohammad Zafi, an FIR has been filed against Salim Ansari alias Bablu, a resident of Garahni village in the Charpokhari police station area, his sons Mohammad Arju, Mohammad Waris alias Bittu, Mohammad Danish, Abhishek Kumar, and two women. In the FIR, she stated that late Friday evening, while her son Mohammad Zafi was at home, the accused barged into her house. When Mohammad Salim Ansari alias Bablu challenged them, Mohammad Arju and Mohammad Waris alias Bittu shot his son. Mohammad Zafi, 48, son of the late Mohammad Islam, a resident of Islam Ganj Mohalla, Ward No. 4, Garahni village, in the Charpokhari police station area, and a social worker, was shot by armed criminals who entered his home. He was seriously injured. His family brought him to a private hospital at Ara for treatment, where he died during treatment. Meanwhile, Mohammad Aman, the social worker's cousin, explained that numerous drug smugglers are dealing in large quantities of drugs in their village.
