ARA, Aug. 30 -- Voting for the 2026-28 session of the District Bar Association of Ara was held on Saturday, with counting of votes scheduled for Sunday. A total of 2,528 advocates were eligible to vote, while 46 candidates contested the election for 16 posts. Returning Officer Manlal Singh said voting was held at the Advocate Hall located in the Civil Court complex. Elaborate security arrangements were made to ensure peaceful polling and counting. Polling began an hour late at 9 am instead of the scheduled 8 am and continued until 5 pm, instead of the scheduled closing time of 4 pm. Singh said the Bar Association of Ara has a total of 53 posts. Of these, Asha Kumari was elected unopposed as vice-president and Rambha Kumari as assistant secretary under the women's reserved category. Seven members of the junior executive were also elected unopposed. Elections were held for 16 posts, including one president, two vice-presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, two assistant secretaries, one treasurer, one auditor and five senior executive members. Of the 2,528 eligible voters, 1,578 cast their votes. Six polling booths were set up to facilitate voting.
