BHABUA, June 16 -- Angry villagers vandalised property and blocked National Highway (NH)-19 after a worker died when a five-tonne wire bundle fell on him at the construction site of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India's (ALIMCO) regional marketing centre near Bhitti village under the Mohania police station area in Kaimur district on Monday, officials said. The deceased was identified as Ashok Rajak, a resident of Nati village. At the time of the incident, he was assisting the company's supervisor, Raju Dwivedi, in lifting a wire bundle weighing around five tonnes using a JCB machine. During the process, the strap holding the wire snapped, causing the heavy bundle to fall directly on Rajak and leaving him critically injured, officials said. The contractor immediately rushed Rajak to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Mohania, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later brought back to the construction site, triggering outrage among villagers, fellow workers, and family members. The agitated crowd vandalised the JCB machine and a car belonging to the contractor. Alleging negligence on the part of the contractor and company management, villagers claimed the incident had claimed the life of the sole breadwinner of a poor family. They demanded action against those responsible, compensation for the bereaved family, and a government job for the next of kin. Protesters initially prevented police from removing the body and blocked the highway. Circle Inspector Nirjhar Kumar, along with police personnel from Mohania and Kudra police stations, reached the spot to assess the situation....
