Anganwadi uniform shirt helps police track killers of four of family
BHABUA, May 18 -- A sky-blue anganwadi uniform shirt found on a girl's body proved crucial in the arrest of the alleged killer of four family members found dead at separate locations last week, Kaimur police said on Sunday.
Kaimur SP Hari Mohan Shukla said since no missing person report was registered in the district or in adjacent districts of Bihar and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, police had to rely on 'scientific clues'. He formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under SDPO Mohania, Pradeep Kumar, to probe the 'blind case'.
"The shirt found on the deceased girl's torso bore a sticker from a tailor in Ramgarh, a clue that gave the case direction and helped us identify the four victims," the SP said, adding, "We located a locked house in Dahrak village where house owner Krishna Murari Gupta, his wife Durgesh, son Ansh (8) and daughter Prachi (4) had been missing for several days."
Shukla said the SIT found blood stains and small pieces of flesh inside the house, indicating the murders and dismemberments took place there and the remains were later dumped elsewhere to conceal their identities and destroy evidence. Ground intelligence and technical investigation led the police to Krishna's brother Vikas Gupta, who was taken into custody.
During interrogations, Vikas allegedly confessed to committing the murders, in association with his younger brother Gautam Gupta alias Rahul and the latter's friend Deepak Kumar Rajput of Kanad in Maharashtra and others. He allegedly cited a property dispute as the motive.
Shukla said the SIT recovered heads of the deceased couple from Durgawati river along with the dagger used in the murder and dismembering, and scooter used in disposing of the parts based on Vikas's statement. "Divers have been deployed to search for the children's heads in the river. Meanwhile, teams have been dispatched to arrest the remaining accused," he said.
On May 10, headless dismembered remains of a man and a boy were recovered from two suitcases beneath a bridge spanning Durgavati river on Mohania-Buxar NH under Ramgarh police station. Two days later, headless torsos of a woman and a girl were found in two sacks under a canal bridge nearby....
