GAYA/AURANGABAD, March 21 -- Chief minister Nitish Kumar, addressing people in Jan Samvad on the final day of the fourth phase of his Samriddhi Yatra in Gaya and Aurangabad on Friday, launched a scathing attack on Lalu Prasad and his family, sharply criticizing the rampant rise of crime and lack of development when the RJD was in power. Kumar said that those people (Lalu and kin) had done absolutely no work. Instead, they indulged in malpractices. "When Lalu was ousted after seven years in power in 1997, he simply appointed his wife as the chief minister. She certainly did no work whatsoever for the welfare of women," Nitish said. "Never forget the government that preceded us. Their tenure was truly terrifying; people were so gripped by fear that they dared not step out of their homes after dusk. Women, in particular, were unsafe. Everywhere, their own people received preferential treatment and had their voices heard. They did nothing for the general public; they merely promoted their own kin," Kumar said. He said that rapid strides were made in the healthcare sector during. "New medical colleges were established, and hospital bed capacity was significantly increased. Work was undertaken to improve schools, and the number of teachers was augmented. Villages were connected to cities through a network of roads, and extensive work was carried out on the construction of bridges and culverts. Just observe today how little time it takes you to travel from one place to another and to state capital Patna," he said. "Previously, the electricity situation in Bihar was dire. Look at the situation today, we are providing you with free electricity. Power supply has been extended to every single village. Now, we are installing solar panels on your rooftops. You will not incur any cost for this either, the government is undertaking the entire project," the CM said....
