PATNA, June 11 -- The Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited, an Anand-based cooperative behind the iconic Amul brand and a pioneer of India's White Revolution, is preparing to establish a modern milk processing plant at Fatuha in Patna district. The project clearance committee of Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority recently approved about 13 acres of land for the facility. A senior industries department official confirmed the move, which comes with an estimated investment of Rs.200 crore. The unit will focus on processing milk and manufacturing fresh dairy products, aiming to boost local value addition and provide better market linkages for dairy farmers. "The development is expected to create around 200 direct and indirect jobs while strengthening the state's overall dairy infrastructure," he said. Amul's entry will likely intensify competition in Bihar's dairy market, long dominated by the state-supported Sudha brand under Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation. Sudha has built strong local loyalty through its network of cooperatives and procurement from small farmers, but Amul's professional branding, product variety and efficient supply chain could challenge that hold.
