PURNEA, Sept. 20 -- The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is all set to oppose the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Bihar, with the party's state unit gearing up to initiate a debate on the issue and stage protests in the coming days. "The UCC issue is no longer confined within a political party and we can say all the true Muslims will come forward to oppose it," Bihar AIMIM president Akhatarul Iman told HT over phone. He added, "Our protest has already started in the country and it is gaining momentum. He accused the government of concealing its failures by diverting the people from core issues such as unemployment, price hike and lawlessness. "We are ready to sacrifice our lives for the sake of our country, and similarly we'll never hesitate in doing so if our religion is attacked." He hoped that the UCC issue would bring all the Muslims under one umbrella. On the other hand, a senior leader of the party, requesting not to disclose his identity, told HT that the AIMIM would lead the UCC protest in Bihar at the grassroots level across Bihar if any move is initiated to introduce it in the state with a substantial population of Muslims....
