Accused Minor Dies in Custody at Child safety Home in Kaimur
BHABUA, Sept. 11 -- A 17-year-old boy, who was detained at the child protection home near Bhabua in Kaimur district on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl, died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday, officials said, adding that the deceased inmate had been at the facility since August 20.
Protection home superintendent Ajay Kumar said the boy was fit and was taken to the Bhabua court on Thursday for a hearing. He returned from court around 12:15 pm when all the children were being fed. The boy asked to use the toilet, and was sent to the toilet with proper protection. When he did not come out for ten minutes, the toilet door was opened and the boy was found lying unconscious. He was immediately taken to Sadar Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
The boy's family members, who arrived at the hospital upon receiving the information, accused the protection home officials of failing to provide proper care, delaying and neglecting treatment, and demanded action. Superintendent of Police, Kaimur, Shikhar Choudhary said a UD (Unnatural Death) case has been registered at the Bhabua Town Police Station and a medical board is conducting a post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death. He said the FSL team is collecting evidence and a magisterial inquiry will be conducted into the death under the standards of the National Human Rights Commission.
Facility officials said the facility is overcrowded as 130 children are being kept against its capacity of 50 only....
