PATNA, Aug. 22 -- A trader from Muzaffarpur, who deals in animal feed and was abducted on August 18, was rescued from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, and four people were arrested for the crime, police said on Friday. According to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra, Chandan Kumar was called to the Sarai area of Vaishali on the pretext of a deal for supply of animal feed. From there, he was kidnapped in an Alto car with Patna registration number and taken to Uttar Pradesh by kidnappers. Chandan was held hostage in a hotel, a poultry farm and a house for about eight hours. During this, he was brutally thrashed and a ransom of Rs.10 lakh was demanded from his wife. Police said the abductors made a video call to Chandan's wife Shweta Kumari and showed her husband being beaten up. The accused gave her an ultimatum to arrange Rs.10 lakh in only 20 minutes. They threatened her dire consequences (Chandan) if the ransom was not paid. Shweta recorded the video call from another mobile. This video later became an important clue for the police to trace the abductors. Investigation revealed that Chandan was first kept in a hotel on the way. After reaching Uttar Pradesh, he was first kept in a poultry farm and then kept in a dilapidated house with his hands and feet tied. Police traced the activities of the accused on the basis of mobile location, video calls and other technical evidence. The location of the abductors found at Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.
