SASARAM, Sept. 21 -- Police rescued a Gujarat-based labour supervisor, Vivek Awasthi (50), who was allegedly abducted for ransom in Rohtas, police said on Sunday. Awasthi, a Kanpur native employed by a Gujarat-based firm, was in the district to recruit labourers from tribal villages when he was taken captive. The abductors contacted Awasthi's wife and employer via WhatsApp, sharing images of the two captives tied up in a forest setting and threatening to harm them if a ransom was not paid. Following a complaint, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mister Raj formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Amjhor Circle Inspector Suresh Das. Using electronic surveillance and ground intelligence, the police located the victims in Gully village, within the Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary in the neighboring Kaimur district. The main suspect, Vijay Oraon, was arrested at the scene. Police have registered a case against Oraon and three associates under sections 140(2) and 140(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
