8 convicted in ASI's murder in Munger
PATNA, Aug. 25 -- A Munger court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ-IV) Kumari Manisha on Monday convicted all the eight named accused in the murder of an ASI rank police official Santosh Kumar Singh. Lawyers attached to the case said that the quantum of punishment is likely to be pronounced on September 7.
Soon after the conviction, there was a huge commotion in the court premises when the convicts, who were being taken back to the divisional jail in a prisoner van, suddenly attacked the police personnel causing injuries of two police personnel.
Munger superintendent of police (SP) Syed Imran Masood rushed to the spot with a heavy police force and brought the situation under control. The injured have been rushed to the Sadar hospital. The police are in the process of registering additional FIRs against the convicts.
Police said the incident took place when the personnel were preparing to take them to divisional jail in a prisoner van amid tight security. During this, the convicts started raising slogans against police administration. The convicts also broke the prison vehicle's windscreen.
On March 14, 2025, ASI Santosh Kumar Singh succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Patna after allegedly being attacked by the family of one Ranveer Kumar creating a ruckus with his neighbours after drinking in Nandalpur village in Munger district. ASI, posted at Dial-112, rushed to the spot along with constable Deepak Kumar and pacified the situation.
Around 7:30 pm the same day, the two sides again clashed during his duty. Rajeev Kumar, Ranveer Kumar, Raju Kumar, Guddu Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Rekha Devi, Sarita Devi and Mausam Kumari, who were present there, united and attacked Santosh with iron rods and sharp edge weapon.
A murder case was registered at Mufassil police station on Deepak's statement in which the court found all eight guilty on the basis of the arguments and evidence of public prosecutor Sanjay Kumar Singh....
