7 quintals ganja seized in Araria & Purnea; 3 held
PURNEA, May 17 -- Around 7.21 quintals of illegal ganja (marijuana) was seized in Araria and Purnea districts and three suspects allegedly involved in the smuggling network were arrested, police said on Saturday. The operation targeted massive consignments in Seemanchal's twin districts.
In the first incident, Araria police and Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) conducted a raid at Bholni village under Sikti police station, seizing 6.3 quintals of ganja concealed in 21 gunny bags and arresting one alleged smuggler who has been charged under the NDPS Act and BNS.
Araria SP Jitendra Kumar said, "We received intelligence that a big consignment was being brought from Nepal so we carried out a raid along with the SSB. Fearing arrests most smugglers fled, but we managed to nab one Mohammad Mustaq."
In the second incident, Purnea police seized a consignment of 0.91 quintal of ganja at Maranga Toll Plaza on NH-31 under Maranga police station on Friday. "The drugs consignment was on its way to other districts when police intercepted the SUV," police said.
SHO Kaushal Kumar said, "Two suspected smugglers were also arrested. Bajrang Paswan and Pawan Kumar Yadav have been charged under the BNS and NDPS Act."...
