6 hurt in group clash in West Champaran
BETTIAH, June 29 -- At least six people were injured including two home guard jawans after two groups clashed with each other at Ramnagar in West Champaran on Saturday late evening, prompting police to detain seven people in this connection.
Ramnagar station house officer (SHO) Pankaj Kumar said the incident occurred when a police team that rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control was caught in stone-pelting between two groups at Ward No. 12 of Jolaha Toli under the Ramnagar police station limits around 8:30pm on Saturday. "In the melee, at least six people, two of them home guard jawans, were injured," the station house officer said. "What immediately sparked the tension could not be known immediately," he added.
The injured policemen have been identified as Ganesh Ram and Gopi Chandra Rai.
Following the incident, tension gripped the village, prompting heavy deployment of police personnel to maintain law and order. The entire area has been kept under strict surveillance, with drones being deployed to monitor the situation, police said.
"We have picked up seven people for interrogation. Video footage is being examined to identify the trouble makers," said Rajesh Kumar, superintendent of police (SP), Bagaha.
Police were yet to register a case in this connection at the time of filing this report....
