DARBHANGA, June 4 -- The excise department in Darbhanga has seized more than 505 litres of foreign liquor concealed inside courier parcels and arrested three alleged smugglers, including the purported kingpin, within 24 hours of the recovery, officials said on Wednesday. According to assistant commissioner of excise, Pradeep Kumar, the seizure was made during a routine vehicle-checking and patrol drive on May 31 at a warehouse of a courier company located in Madhpur under Mabbi police station limits. During a thorough inspection of the facility, officials found foreign liquor of various brands hidden inside 40 green tin containers packed with wood shavings in an attempt to evade detection. The recovered consignment comprised 505.17 litres of foreign liquor in bottles and tetra packs.
