PATNA, Oct. 24 -- At least five people were killed and two were seriously injured in an explosion inside a two-storey house where firecrackers were being manufactured in Alampur village under Jamo Bazar police station limit in Bihar's Siwan district on Friday evening.

The area is known to be a hub of firecracker manufacturers and traders. Police said that they were also probing whether locals have proper documents to legally manufacture crackers.
The explosion in a two-storey house, according to witnesses, was so intense that even neighbouring houses developed cracks and body parts of those inside the house flung outside onto the road.
DM, Siwan, Vijay Prakash Meena, told HT that five persons had died in the blast and two more persons were injuired in the incident. The DM said that the incident took place at around 5.30 pm in the evening and it took more than an hour for the administration to douse the fire at the site.
Officials said that the recovered bodies were dismembered, adding that all those killed were yet to be identified.
"The explosion took place at the house of firecracker manufacturer Mohammed Amiruddin. He lived in the house with the family of his son," said an officer.
Meanwhile, some locals said that Amiruddin, three of his grandsons and one granddaughter died in the incident, but his daughter-in-law somehow survived the tragedy as she managed to leave the house on time.
A resident of Alampur said that there was a store of firecrackers in Amiruddin's house. According to locals, he used to supply firecrackers for weddings and other events.
Locals also said that initially they heard small blasts and then a series of blasts culminated into a huge explosion.
Till late evening, the fire brigade, electricity department, dog squad, medical and FSL teams who arrived at the spot were looking for evidence to ascertain the real cause of the blast. "We are looking into all aspects of what caused the blast," said SP Siwan, Bharat Soni.
The police have registered an FIR and are investigating the matter.
The SHO of Jamo Bazar police station, Dhiraj Kumar and chowkidar Chandrika Manjhi were suspended.
In the past, several fatal accidents have been reported in Siwan and neighbouring Saran during firecracker manufacturing. A number of people lost their lives and many people were injured in these incidents.
Locals said that people from far and wide used to come to the area to order firecrackers for weddings and other auspicious events.
As the Diwali and Chhath Puja would around, the demand for firecrackers would also increase.
