4 workers hurt as portion of 4-lane ganga bridge caves in
PATNA/SAMASTIPUR, July 5 -- Four workers were injured when they fell from the centering structure of the four-lane Tajpur-Bakhtiyarpur bridge project over the Ganga river in Bihar's Samastipur district on Saturday morning. The centering structure at pier number 38 gave way suddenly, sending iron angles crashing down and injuring four labourers, said an official of the road construction department.
According to initial reports, workers were engaged in preparing iron angles for concreting work when the structure buckled and fell from nearly 25 feet. The labourers, who were on the structure at the time, tumbled down with the debris. They were immediately rushed to the Patori sub-divisional hospital by locals and site personnel. One worker sustained a serious head injury, while another suffered a fractured arm. The condition of the critically injured labourer is being closely monitored.
Patori DSP BK Medhavi, who reached the spot along with police teams, confirmed that the incident took place during centering operations. "An iron angle being installed for the centering work collapsed. The injured have been hospitalised, and a detailed inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact cause," he said....
