ARA, Aug. 21 -- Police have arrested four alleged members of a sand mafia gang and seized arms and ammunition from their possession near Joga Baba Temple on the banks of Sone River in Bindgaon area, officers said on Thursday. Putus alias Ravi Kumar, resident of Mahadev Chak Semriya village in Koilwar police station area; Akhilesh Kumar, resident of Semra village in Babura police station area; Sanjeet Kumar, resident of Veerampur village in Gidha police station area and Chhotu Yadav, resident of Mahkampur Bara village in Ara Mufussil police station area were arrested late on Wednesday. According to police, Ravi is a close aide of notorious sand mafia Guddu Rai and continued to operate the latter's gang after he was imprisoned. Ravi has 13 cases registered against him in Koilwar and Ara town police stations, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, loot and illegal mining. He has been jailed several times in the past. Sanjeet and Chhotu also have criminal cases registered against them in the past, police said. Sadar SDPO (2) Ranjit Kumar Singh said that SP Raj received a tip-off that some armed criminals had arrived on the banks of the Sone River in Bindgaon to carry out a 'major incident.' Besides, they were involved in illegal mining in Sone River and were extorting money from boatmen at gunpoint, he added. The SP formed a team led by Sadar SDPO (2). The team included Babura SHO Sanjay Kumar and other police personnel. With the assistance of STF, the team raided a location in Bindgaon and arrested the four individuals. Two regular 315-bore rifles, one country-made pistol, nine live cartridges, and three mobile phones were recovered from them. SDPO Ranjit Kumar Singh added that Guddu Rai is considered one of Bhojpur's notorious sand mafia. A bounty of one lakh rupees was previously announced on his arrest. He was arrested in September last year and remains in jail....
