BETTIAH, June 25 -- At least four people died and as many injured in a collision between an auto rickshaw and a pickup van on national highway -28 near Chhapwa in Bihar's East Champaran district on Wednesday. Confirming the incident, Sagauli's station house officer (SHO), Anish Kumar Singh said the incident occurred when the auto rickshaw carrying eight people on its way to Bettiah in West Champaran, from Chhapwa Chowk in East Champaran, collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction near Nayakatola on Bettiah-Motihari NH-28 on Wednesday afternoon. "Bodies have been sent for postmortem examination at Motihari, while the injured are undergoing treatment at a government hospital at Sagauli," the SHO said. During the course of investigation, it came to fore that six of the victims were from the same family, returning from a water park at Chhangraha in East Champaran, police said. Impact of the collision was heard far away. "The collision was so loud that people from nearby houses and shops rushed to the spot immediately. It took no time to understand that a serious mishap had occurred," sources quoted a local as saying. Video footage emerging from the accident site showed the auto rickshaw twisted out of shape. Soon after the accident, locals rushed to the spot and extricated the victims. The deceased were identified as Rubina Khatoon (30), Ayesha Khatoon (22), and Zaid Khan (7), all residents of Nayaka Tola in Bettiah. The auto rickshaw driver, who also died in the accident, was identified as Bhairo Raut, a resident of Chhangraha Brita Tola, police said....
