3 killed, 10 hurt after tractor with labourers overturns in Araria; probe on
PURNEA, July 15 -- Three women lost their lives and 10 others were injured when a tractor carrying agricultural labourers overturned into a roadside ditch due to a brake failure in Bihar's Araria on Tuesday morning, police said, adding they were on their way to transplanting paddy when the accident took place near Sirsia hanumanganj under Bhargama block.
Soon after the accident, police reached the spot and sent all injured to Bhargama primary health centre.
"Two women died on the spot while one soon after she was brought to the PHC. About 10 injured are undergoing treatment at Araria district hospital and they are stable," an officer said.
Meera Devi, Naina Devi and Ranju Devi, all aged between 35 and 40, were killed. They were residents of Hanumanganj under Bhargama police station.
Circle officer Puja Kumari said, "The police are probing the case from all angles, including whether the tractor driver was a minor. The bodies have also been sent for post-mortem."
She assured all possible assistance to the bereaved families and free treatment to the injured.
Meanwhile, sub inspector Sonu Kumar said, "Prima facie, it appears that the accident was the result of brake failure. An investigation is underway."...
