PATNA, Sept. 7 -- Three people died and one was rescued in separate drowning incidents across Patna and Hajipur on Sunday, police said. The four victims, including three women, were caught in floodwaters within a 12-hour span, with local residents successfully recovering the bodies of the three deceased. In the first incident, Sangeeta Devi (35), a resident of Shahpur in Danapur sub-division in Patna district, drowned late on Saturday night when her leg slipped in floodwaters at Hawaspur village of Diara area under Shahpur police station. Her body was later found by locals. According to family members, the incident took place at around 11pm on Saturday night when Sangeeta left her house for some work. She had come to Hawaspur village on September 2 at Patlapur panchayat to attend her grandmother's funeral rites. In the second development, three persons, including two women, drowned in flood waters in two separate panchayats in Diara region of Sonepur block. A woman and a man died while the second woman was rescued with the help of locals. Panchayat head Vikas Kumar Singh said the deceased man was identified as Yogeshwar Paswan, a resident of Ward No. 5 of the Western Panchayat. The deceased's brother said he drowned while trying to retrieve house belongings that were drifted away in the floodwaters. In another incident related to dangers posed by the floodwaters entering homes, an old woman died after a snake bit her in Madhopur village in Hetanpaur panchayat area in Diyara near Danapur, a suburb of Patna. The deceased was identified as Gayatri Devi, wife of late Ashok Singh. Her daughter Rinku Kumari informed that Devi was sleeping in her home when a snake bit her and she could not be taken to the hospital as the area is submerged by floodwaters. Villagers allege that there is not enough boat facility during the flood to carry patients to hospitals despite it is an emergency situation....
