3 cops suspended for 'abducting' LIC agent
PATNA, Oct. 8 -- Three policemen, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ranitalab police station, have been suspended following complaints that they forcibly picked up LIC agent Upendra Kumar, 46, without a warrant or any registered case against him and then tortured him at the police station.
Upendra was arrested by the police on the intervening night of September 21-22 during a police raid to arrest Kumar's brother in a truck theft case. Kumar alleged that police officers kept him in the police station's kitchen, where no CCTV was installed, and brutally thrashed him.
He was later released. He wrote to the National Human Rights Commission, the director general of police, Bihar, and the SSP, Patna, regarding the police's brutality.
Following this, the matter was handed over to Paliganj SDPO 2 Pankaj Kumar for investigation.
Based on the report submitted by Paliganj SDPO 2, SHO of Ranitalab Shravan Kumar, SI Arun Kumar of the same station, and Jitan Chhapra OP in-charge Adarsh Kumar have been suspended....
