PATNA, Aug. 24 -- Three persons, including a six-month-old infant, died and two injured after a break out at a house located on Bypass area under Bakhatiyarpur police station limits, about 50 kilometers from the state capital late on Saturday night. The police identified the deceased as Reema Devi (45), wife of Pankaj Kumar, and Geeta Devi, mother of Pankaj Kumar and Sundari Kumari, a niece of the family. Police said that the fire broke out at a bike parts shop attached to the house. The shop belonged to Pankaj Kumar whose family resided in the adjoining house. A curtain first caught the fire and it soon spread to plastic sheets and then it surged so rapidly that the occupants had no time to react, and slowly the whole building was engulfed by the inferno, he added. Barh SDPO-2 Ayush Srivastava confirmed that three persons of a family died during treatment at the hospital after afer suffering serious burn injuries. "The cause of the fire is not clear so far," he added. Sundari's parents Shivam Kumar and Moni Kumari, residents of Nawada, had come to visit Bakhtiyarpur. They saved their lives after jumping from the roof. Moni suffered a fractured leg during jumping. Both the injured persons were taken to the hospital for treatment. Soon after the incident, the local police and fire brigade team rushed to the scene and at least 12 firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze after extensive efforts. However, three persons succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Pankaj told the police that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. The tragic loss of three lives from a single family has left the entire locality in deep grief and mourning. Locals told the police that it seemed that three persons died due to inhalation of smoke as they were trapped inside the house on a smoked-filled upper floor. "Most of the people were evacuated safely Moni Kumari and Shivam Kumar, father of Sundari, received injuries but they are safe," a local said....
