PATNA, Aug. 11 -- Around 25,000 landless families in Bihar will be provided homestead land papers for house construction in next few days, by August 15 as part of the special drive to give land to landless families identified in a survey held last year, officials said. Around 132,000 families claimed during the survey that they did not have land for house construction; subsequently, around 71,000 families were identified as having received land in the past few years. Around 35,000 families were found ineligible for land allocation based on laid-out criteria. Early this year, special drives were conducted to provide land to landless families from economically marginalised sections and around 25,000 families have remained uncovered so far. Each landless family is eligible for three decimal of land (approximately 1,306 square feet) under the government's scheme. The families given land for house construction are also covered under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana -- Gramin or PMAY(G) and other financial assistance schemes. Jai Singh, secretary of revenue and land reforms department, said that all districts completed formalities for providing land to remaining landless families identified in a survey. "Of the 30,000 uncovered landless families, we have already given land to around 5,400 families and the rest, around 25,000, will be covered in next few days until August 15. All families will receive land papers and possession will also be ensured," Singh said. He said all land papers given to landless families will have QR codes and districts have completed the processes as part of the fixed procedure to maintain uniformity. The government started the drive to give land to landless families from poorer sections for permanent settlement under the Basera Abhiyan (campaign), officials said. More importantly, the government is also contemplating a fresh survey to identify more landless families who were not enlisted in the previous survey so that all such landless families from marginalised and economically weaker sections can have their own land and build houses for permanent settlement in various districts across the state. "We are going to conduct another survey soon once all persons identified in the first survey are covered. The fresh survey will start soon to identify landless families who meet the criteria for receiving government land for house construction under the Basera campaign," said Singh, secretary of revenue and land reforms.
