20-yr-old student dies by suicide at Motihari engineering college
BETTIAH, May 22 -- A 20-year-old mechanical engineering student died allegedly by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel at Motihari engineering college in Motihari town of Bihar's East Champaran district on Thursday, police said.
Her family has alleged foul play and accused the police of "evading a proper investigation." Meanwhile, Priyanka Kumari, a trainee IPS officer, attached with Motihari Mufassil police station, told media persons that, prima facie, the death appeared to a suicide. "The girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room which was also closed from inside. An FSL team involved in the investigation has collected the samples. The CCTV footage and the girl's mobile phone are also being examined," said Kumari.
"The matter came to light after she failed to respond to repeated knocks on her door by an electrician, prompting the hostel authorities to break it open. The girl, a third year student, was staying alone in the room under a single-occupancy arrangement, " an officer said.
"She was found unconscious on a chair in her room. She was rushed to the hospital where oxygen was administered to her and she died during treatment.," said Navneet Kumar, the college principal. Meanwhile, the hospital gave a different version of events.
When contacted, Dr Safi Imam, who attended the girl at sadar hospital in Motihari, said she was brought dead. "She was brought here in an unresponsive state. There was also a mark around her neck which indicates the death due to hanging," said the doctor.
The student's father accused the police of trying to evade an investigation. "We spoke to her around 10pm on Wednesday. She was doing well... We have a hunch that she was murdered and police are trying to dub it as suicide," he said....
