2 kids among 3 killed as sand-laden truck overturns on roadside house
PURNEA, July 4 -- Three people, including two children, were killed and seven others sustained serious injuries after a speeding sand-laden truck overturned onto a roadside house on NH-31 near Narayanpur village under Bhawanipur police station limits on Friday, police said.
According to police, the truck was travelling from Khagaria toward Naugachhia when the driver lost control, causing it to overturn onto the house. The residential structure collapsed, trapping a family underneath and resulting in three deaths and seven injuries. Police added the bodies were crushed inside the house, covered by sand and debris. A JCB was brought in to recover the bodies and rescue those trapped. The victims are Ankush Kumar (3), Radha Kumar (4) and Indu Devi (50).
The injured have been admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) where four remain critical.
According to some locals, the sand-laden truck was at a high speed and the driver couldn't negotiate its speed leading to the accident. On the other hand, some claimed that the truck's tyre burst. The incident caused uproar in the area with residents blocking NH-31 for 45 minutes.
Deputy SP (traffic) Anil Kumar said, "Overspeeding and flouting traffic rules are the reasons behind increasing accidents. The administration has launched drives against illegal parking and reckless driving."
Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent to JLNMCH for post-mortem examination. "Toll may mount as several injured are in a critical condition. We have started an investigation and a manhunt for the truck driver is also underway. A case has been registered," he added....
