2 electrocuted, 10 hurt as bus comes in contact with wire
PATNA, June 18 -- The joy of returning home after work turned into mourning on Wednesday when a bus carrying over 50 labourers from a brickkiln at Chautarwa village in Narkatiyaganj block of Bettiah came in contact with a live wire near Shambhu Sharan temple under Giriyak police station area of Nalanda, police said.
A couple got electrocuted, while at least 10 persons suffered injuries in the incident.
The victims were identified as Rudal Manjhi (50) and his wife Phulo Devi (45).
The injured were taken to nearby Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri for treatment, and authorities have launched an investigation into the accident.
Police said the injured were identified as Putus Kumari (15), Rinku Devi (28), Kalu Manjhi (42), Santosh Manjhi (25), Pawan Manjhi (18), Dharmendra Manjhi (37), Rinku Devi (40), Saroj Devi, Kareena Kumari (23) and Raj (2).
Reports state the labourers were returning to their village Ghoshrawa.
It is said that an 11,000-volt high-tension electric wire passing over the road was swinging quite low.
The passengers were travelling with household items, including bicycles placed on the roof of the bus that likely touched the wire.
Accusing the electricity department of negligence, angry villagers alleged that the high-tension wire was hanging low for long and despite several complaints no action was taken.
The district administration has ordered an inquiry and assured action against the erring officials.
Gaurav Kumar Singh, SHO of Pawapuri police station said, "Preliminary investigation indicates that the accident took place when a bicycle placed on the roof of the bus came into contact with the overhead high-tension power line."
"On the directive of the Nalanda SP, we have constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate this case," he added....
