2 bihar youths paid to drive car to Bengal: cops
PATNA, May 13 -- The Bihar Police investigating the two youths arrested from the state for the sensational murder of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, said that the youths were lured to carry the vehicle -- Nissan Micra -- to Howrah in Bengal at the pretext of being given jobs and some instant money.
Rath, the executive assistant to Adhikari, was shot dead in Madhyamgram on May 6, two days after the declaration of the fiercely fought West Bengal Assembly Polls results.
The West Bengal Police on Monday arrested three people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in connection with the Rath's killing, pursuing leads from a UPI transaction made at a toll plaza by one of the suspects.
The Nissan Micra that two Bihar youths -- Vickky Maurya and Mayank Mishra - drove to Bengal was allegedly used to block the cavalcade of Adhikari. The youths were convinced by the criminals with lure of money, said the investigators from Bihar.
"Investigation found that both the youths were lured for Rs.50,000 and tasked to transport a four-wheeled vehicle from Dhanbad to Howrah, due to a mistake, they were arrested by the West Bengal police late on Sunday," said a police officer.
Vicky's mother Neelam Devi said, "My son is minor. He did all the household work and no case was registered against him. He used to work in Mumbai. When I fell ill, we called him back. My husband came to know through the media that our son has been picked up by the police."
Vicky's father Gautam runs a medical store and Vicky is his younger . "My elder son is mentally challenged. Vicky had taken Rs.2,000 from the house on May 7 and informed that he had gone to Mumbai and after reaching there, he will send the location of the company in which he will work," said Gautam, adding that Buxar police took him to police station with his mentally challenged son and seized three cell phones.
"I don't know when the Bengal CM's PA was killed. I came to know from the media that my son has been arrested in this case. My son was at home on May 6. He had left for Mumbai in the afternoon of May 7. We were kept in the police station for more than 30 hours," he added.
Vicky is one of the three accused in the murder of West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari's PA Chandranath Rath.
Mayank and Vicky were the two who travelled to Jharkhand from Buxar, along with two others, took a silver colour Nissan Micra to West Bengal around 7 pm on May 6, the day of murder.
Both youth later returned to Buxar the very next day by train.
Mayank's grandfather Raj Dayal Mishra said, "My son Jitendra lives with his family in Ranchi. He works as a contractor. Mayank used to come to Buxar very rarely. Ten days ago Mayank came here and then left. A couple of days ago, the police came searching for him and the house was searched."
"Today I knew through media that he has been arrested," he said....
