GAYA JI, Sept. 14 -- A 17-year-old girl died by suicide after she was allegedly raped by a government school teacher in Bihar's Gaya Ji district, leading to her pregnancy, police said on Sunday, adding that the accused had been arrested. In her complaint, the girl's mother alleged that her daughter was a student of a high school in Belaganj police station area where the accused, a 31-year-old assistant teacher, deceived her and engaged in illicit sexual acts with her, resulting in pregnancy. Distressed by the situation, the 17-year-old ended her life on August 9. Police said the girl's body was cremated in a haste without informing the police. The family allegedly thought she had died of snakebite but later got to know about the relationship with the accused from her friends. On Saturday, the victim's family members and local residents surrounded the school premises demanding the teacher's arrest. Following the commotion, Belaganj SHO Sunil Kumar Dwivedi rushed to the scene and took the accused into custody. A case had been registered against the accused under sections 64 (punishment for the offence of rape) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, SHO Dwivedi said....
