BETTIAH, May 23 -- East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat on Friday suspended 10 policemen for allegedly facilitating meetings between prisoners/detainees and specific individuals during their production in Motihari court due to temptation and personal interest, police said. In a communication on a WhatsApp group of police personnel and media representatives, the SP said the action was taken after scanning the CCTV footage of the court. "It has come to light that the deputed security personnel would facilitate prisoners/detainees to meet specific individuals and family members during production in court solely in lieu of money or under the influence of personal interest," said Prabhat, adding that it was like a racket involving several policemen. The disclosure came after a complaint that Kamruddin Miyan - arrested in cases related to the Arms Act - was allowed to meet specific individuals. Describing the action against them on charges of misconduct, indiscipline, and arbitrariness, the SP said departmental proceedings had been initiated against them. Those suspended are Ram Kumar Yadav, Manibhushan Sharma, and Ranjeet Kumar Singh -- all havildars.
