PATNA, April 28 -- The Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department of the government on Monday claimed that massive action has been taken to strictly enforce the prohibition law leading to the arrest of 1.7 million people under Bihar excise act since it came into force in April 2016, said its secretary Ajay Yadav. The individuals were arrested between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2026 for offences related to both consumption and sale of alcohol in Bihar. Talking with reporters, Yadav said 1.1 million cases were registered in special excise courts during the period and 0.5 million cases have been disposed off. "These figures show that a continuous campaign is being run to implement the liquor ban law in the state. The government is using modern technology to stop liquor smuggling. Altogether 42 drones and 12 speed motor boats have been deployed for surveillance in the diara and riverine areas. Apart from this, 84 check posts have been set up across the state, of which 67 are inter-state check posts. All the check posts are equipped with CCTV cameras," said secretary, adding that around 1.1 million FIRs related to prohibition have been registered in which around 0.5 million cases were registered by the excise department and over 0.5 million cases were lodged by the Bihar police. During the operation, 24.2 million litres of country made liquor and 24 million litres of foreign liquor were seized. In between January 2022 and March 2026, with the help of Drone, police arrested 5,090 accused after registered 8,834 FIRs and seized 5 million litres liquor. From February 2022 to March 2026, police carried out raids at 80,353 places with the help of speed motorboats and inflatable motorboats, in which arrested 1,364 persons and recovered 1.6 million litres liquor. About 98 per cent of the seized liquor has been destroyed till March 2026 while 0.16 million vehicles have been seized, out of which 80,207 vehicles have been auctioned and 25,232 vehicles have been released after collecting penalty....
