GAYAJI, June 6 -- Vikas Kumar, a man over 20 years old who works as a plumber and electrician in Gaya Ji district of Bihar, had the shock of his life on Thursday when a whopping Rs.2,94,80,00,000 were credited into his bank account. The money was transferred in two instalments. The news of his wealth soon became the talk of the town. Acting on the advice of his well-wishers and being panic-struck himself, he informed officials at Jio Payments Bank, where he holds an account, and the police cyber cell. The thorough investigation found that a technical glitch of the bank's mobile app showed crores in Kumar's account. Cyber DSP Gaya, AR Danish, told HT that no prior history of big transaction has been found in Kumar's account and that Before this late evening relief, Kumar had a day of fear, as the sudden transaction of a huge amount in his bank account was "very fearful," and people had begun to talk about it. Kumar hails from Mastpura village, located within the Bodh Gaya Municipal Council area under Bodh Gaya police station limits of Gaya Ji district and has had a Jio Payments Bank account for the past five years. He said the maximum amount he has ever transacted through his bank account was Rs.6-7 lakh and his daily work as a plumber or electrician fetches him Rs.10,000-12,000 per month. He said the money was credited to his account in two instalments. On Thursday morning, it was around Rs.92 crores, while by evening, the balance had risen to over Rs.294 crores. Suspecting a potential banking error or technical malfunction, he did not attempt to withdraw any funds. As news of the incident spread, people began visiting Vikas's home, and the matter became a topic of discussion in the village and surrounding areas. Vikas informed the relevant bank officials about the situation. He also informed Gaya police's cyber cell. Later, his account was put under surveillance, and an investigation was launched to ascertain how the massive credit was sent into his account and where it originated.
