'Spurious liquor' kills 1 in East Champaran
BETTIAH, April 3 -- At least one person died and two others were admitted to hospital with symptoms of blindness after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in East Champaran district of dry Bihar, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, the death of a man identified as Chandu, son of Suresh Prasad, was reported from Balganga village under Raghunathpur police station area. The two others who fell ill were reported hailing from Turkauliya in the Motihari subdivision of the district.
"Preliminary investigation shows that one person died after consuming spirit in Raghunathpur, while two others are still undergoing treatment," said Saurabh Jorwal, district magistrate (DM), East Champaran.
FSL and postmortem reports of the victim are awaited, Swarn Prabhat, superintendent of police (SP), East Champaran said.
The DM said that based on doctors' feedback, the condition of the patients was out of danger. He added that the supplier of the spirit has been identified and raids are being conducted at their suspected hideouts.
Those taken ill have been identified as Loha Thakur and Jitendra Shah. Speaking to a section of media persons at health facility, Loha Thakur said that he lost his eyesight after consuming spirit.
"I had consumed the liquor alone," he added.
Meanwhile, swinging into action, an AITF team has launched raids in Parsouni Mushari Tola under Turkaulia police station and an FSL team has also been pressed into service.
"Half a dozen liquor mafia members, who were out on bail, have been taken into custody. Orders have been issued for raids across the entire district," said Swarn Prabhat, sharing information through a whatsapp group comprising police personnel and media representatives....
