DARBHANGA, July 30 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for two new cooperative sugar mills at Raiyam in Darbhanga and Sakri in Madhubani on November 20, 2026, Bihar Sugarcane Industries Minister Sanjay Kumar said on Wednesday, as the state government simultaneously launched a special campaign to expand sugarcane cultivation and enrol farmers in cooperative societies to ensure adequate cane supply for the proposed mills. Kumar said the state has set a target of establishing 25 sugar mills across Bihar over the next five years and is committed to reviving the sugar industry to generate employment and increase income of cane farmers. "The PM will lay the foundation stone for two sugar mills at Sakri in Madhubani and Raiyam in Darbhanga on November 20. The government is committed to fulfilling its resolve to establish sugar mills in the state, which will not only create employment opportunities but also enhance the income of sugarcane farmers," the minister said....
