'Don't talk rubbish': CM slams Oppn legislators
PATNA, Feb. 25 -- The Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed some noisy scenes in the pre-lunch session when the Opposition members raised the issue of lathicharge on chowkidars/dafadars in the state capital on Monday
However, the Opposition's bid to raise anti-governemnt slogans prompted chief minister Nitish Kumar to intervene and the JD(U) strongman gave a tongue lashing to the RJD members, accusing their party of doing little for the state's development when in power from 1990 to 2005.
At one point, the CM also had a slip of tongue when he mentioned to RJD members that the NDA had "two thousand two" legislators instead of 202, the strength of NDA in the 243 member state Assembly.
"See, what is your strength now. Do not talk rubbish. This government will run without any hiccups. Just look at us. We are two thousand and two. And just look at how many of you have been left now,"said the CM, apparently referring to the RJD's poor show in the last Assembly polls when it managed to win only 25 seats.
In the same vein, the CM took potshots at the RJD members, stating that when the party led government was in power in Bihar, the state's development had taken a backseat. You (read RJD) all did nothing when in power. Our government has done lot of work," he said.
Trouble began soon after the House assembled at 11 am, with RJD MLA Kumar Sarvajeet registering a protest against the police's baton charge on village 'chowkidars' (watchmen) on Monday in Patna when they were staging a demonstration to press the demand for a hike in stipends.
The parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, however, said that the government had never put any restriction on demonstration but causing damage to public property or violating public order was not acceptable.
"The 'chowkidars' who were demanding a hike in their pay are very much employees of the Home department. Yet, they were treated in a deplorable fashion yesterday," alleged Sarvajeet.
Several other MLAs of the Opposition party also raised a slogan: "Bandook goli ki sarkar nahin chalegi (will not allow a rule by brute force, with the help of guns and bullets)".
The sloganeering prompted CM Kumar to intervene.
"Women used to feel scared moving out in evenings and there was no development worth the name during your tenure. We have done lot of work," the CM said....
