BETTIAH, April 20 -- Security agencies, which have detained 25 foreign nationals so far in 2026, were directed to crack down on cross-border smuggling of fertiliser and other goods, as part of a slew of measures including repairing missing pillars and removing encroachments along the Indo-Nepal border, according to an official statement issued Saturday late evening. According to the statement, security personnel have arrested 1,179 people in 22,500 cases related to liquor smuggling and 779 cases under the Arms Act between 2022 and 2026. Additionally, 663 arrests have been made in 448 cases, along with the seizure of counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs.54.64 lakh during the period.
