ZP, Panchayat celebrations turn violent; 11 PEOPLE BOOKED
NAVI MUMBAI, Feb. 12 -- Post-election celebrations following the declaration of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti results spiralled into violence in Raigad district on Sunday, with a group of Shiv Sena (UBT) workers allegedly vandalizing cars and assaulting their occupants. Police have registered a case against 11 party workers.
According to police, the complainant and his relatives were travelling by car from Nagaon towards Shitaladevi when their vehicle was intercepted in front of a Shiv Sena faction office during victory celebrations.
The accused proceeded to slap the vehicle, and assault those inside. A woman occupant was allegedly pulled by her hand, subjected to obscene abuse, and humiliated.
One of the accused allegedly smashed the car's rear windshield, causing damage.
Police said the assault likely stemmed from an earlier dispute, the accused allegedly held a grudge over a previous incident involving an attempt on the life of the complainant's maternal uncle.
Two persons travelling in another vehicle behind the complainant's car were also allegedly attacked with iron rods, abused, and threatened.
Revdanda Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Mumbai Police Act....
