ZERO DISTRICTS AFFECTED BY LWE, first since 1967: centre to states
New Delhi, April 17 -- India now has zero districts categorised as "left wing extremism (LWE)-affected" - a first since May 1967 - the Centre has informed states citing a review conducted after the March 31 deadline ended, officials said on Thursday. People aware of the matter said that the two districts last affected by LWE -- Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) and West Singhbhum (Jharkhand) -- were removed based on a review by the Centre.
At its peak in 2013, the country had at least 106 Naxal-affected districts spread across nine states.
