Worker plunges into Thane creek from bridge scaffolding
THANE, June 12 -- A railway contract worker lost his balance, plunged into the Thane creek and drowned while erecting bamboo scaffolding for painting work on the Central Railway's Mumbra Creek Bridge. The incident took place at 4:00pm on Thursday at Mumbra reti bunder.
The deceased has been identified as Jalal Uddin Waqar Ali, 27. According to the Thane Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the bridge is located on the fast railway line at Mumbra.
Yasin Tadvi, who heads the RDMC, said his team received information about the incident at 4:15pm. Fire brigade personnel recovered Jalal's body from the creek and handed it over to the Mumbra Police.
They have registered an accidental death case and are investigating to find out whether safety protocols were being observed by the contractor who was assigned the job....
