Mumbai, March 21 -- Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson Rupali Chakankar, who is in the eye of a storm over her links with arrested 'godman' Ashok Kharat, resigned from her post on Friday evening. The 43-year-old Chakankar was summoned by the chief minister to his residence, Varsha, and asked to resign as MSCW chairperson, insiders in the government confirmed. "I have decided to resign to facilitate impartial and transparent probe into the allegations that are being made. I have resigned owing to moral responsibility," Chakankar posted on X. Chakankar, a member of the Shivanika Sansthan Trust headed by Kharat is under attack from the opposition for videos on social media, including one which shows her washing his feet. The development came on a day when the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case seized more objectionable videos featuring Kharat from his personal assistant Neeraj Jadhav, who was arrested.
