Woman dies as iron structure falls on her
Pune, Sept. 6 -- A 45-year-old woman died after a temporary iron structure erected for a Dahi Handi celebration collapsed on her while it was being dismantled in the Old Sanghvi area of Pune on Friday night, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred at around 10.15 pm, after the celebration had concluded.
According to the police, workers were dismantling an iron arch that had been erected to support a stack of loudspeakers when it suddenly collapsed. The structure fell on Salma Pathan, who had come to watch the event with her husband.
Pathan sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
"Salma Pathan and her husband, Salauddin Pathan, had come to watch the Dahi Handi event. After the event concluded, the organisers were dismantling the arch when the iron structure fell on her," said Jitendra Koli, senior inspector at the Sanghvi police station.
The family has decided not to file a complaint against the organisers as the couple's son is associated with the Dahi Handi mandal, police said. Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are investigating the incident.
"Salma and Salauddin's son, Rahim Pathan, is also a worker for the mandal, and all the boys celebrate Dahi Handi together," Koli said. "If any negligence or other offence is found during the investigation, appropriate action will be taken," he added....
