We did not expect eviction: Zakir Ansari
India, May 20 -- Zakir Ansari, 36, a small-scale artisan, was seen filling a large blue drum with blocks of ice, water and rose syrup along with his friend Baban Malik, as the demolition of their home in Garib Nagar was on. Having reconciled to their situation, the two decided to serve refreshments to others like them who have just lost their homes.
They managed to assemble 150 kgs of ice and six to eight bottles of syrup since the morning. "We have already distributed two drums of refreshments among those who have lost their homes. People have been carrying plastic bottles which we are filling. My family and I are on the road too, like everyone else. I never thought this day would come, even though we knew we were living on railway land. We will now follow whatever others and my relatives plan," said Ansari, pointing at his father and members of his extended family.
They came to live here in the 1980s, before which they lived in slums in south Mumbai....
