Kolkata, July 9 -- An accused in the rape and murder of a 11-year-old girl in West Bengal's Baruipur area was shot dead by the police in an alleged encounter when the police had taken him to the crime scene on Wednesday. Police claimed he snatched a firearm and fired at the cops while trying to escape. "The police fired in retaliation. Mondal was injured and rushed to the Baruipur hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors," said a senior officer of Baruipur police district.
