Mysuru, July 12 -- Veteran playback singer S Janaki, whose prolific career spanned more than six decades and over 48,000 songs across multiple languages, died at a private hospital on Saturday. She was 88.
In a career that began in 1957, Janaki became one of the defining voices of Indian cinema, particularly across the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries, earning the title "Nightingale of South India".
