two-year-old boy dies after falling into open drain
Mumbai, Oct. 17 -- A two-year-old boy died after falling into an open drain behind his house in Vasai, in Maharashtra's Palghar district, on Thursday night, police said.
His father pulled him out and took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, officers said.
Police said that Shahdev Turiya, 27, had returned home from work on Thursday and was having dinner when his son, Ankush, went outside to play.
Around 11.35pm, Turiya heard locals screaming that the boy had fallen into a drain behind their house. He jumped into the drain and pulled his son out, but water had entered the child's nose and mouth, officers said.
Police inspector Pravin Jagtap of the Waliv police station said Ankush was taken to a Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation hospital in Nagindaspada, Nalasopara (East). The hospital authorities informed the police, following which they registered an accidental death report.
The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and are investigating the sequence of events leading to the child's death....
