MUMBAI, March 9 -- The Bandra police registered an FIR after a video allegedly showing illegal dumping of construction debris along Chimbai beach went viral on Instagram earlier this week. The complaint was lodged on March 4 by Arvind Borija, a junior supervisor with the Solid Waste Management department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) H-West ward. The video clip purportedly shows workers carrying sacks of debris on their heads and dumping them along the shoreline. Based on the complaint, the police booked the two unidentified persons. Bandra police were unavailable for comment. Civic officials said the act amounted to illegal disposal of construction and demolition waste. "There are designated sites for dumping construction debris. It cannot be disposed of randomly," a BMC official said.
